About The Song
“I Don’t Want to Hear Any More” is a ballad recorded by the Eagles for their seventh studio album, Long Road Out of Eden. The double album was released on October 30, 2007, by Eagles Recording Company II and distributed by Lost Highway Records in some territories. It marked the band’s first full studio album of new material since The Long Run in 1979, following a 28-year hiatus from studio recording.
The song was written by British singer-songwriter Paul Carrack, known for his work with bands like Ace, Squeeze, and Mike + the Mechanics. Carrack provided Timothy B. Schmit with a demo cassette of the song backstage during a meeting in England. The Eagles’ version features lead vocals by bassist Timothy B. Schmit, with harmonies from the band. Production was handled by the Eagles collectively, with Bill Szymczyk engineering and mixing.
Long Road Out of Eden debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, selling over 711,000 copies in its first week in the United States. It achieved multi-platinum status and produced several singles. “I Don’t Want to Hear Any More” was released as the fifth and final single from the album in 2009. It performed well on adult contemporary radio, peaking at No. 23 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart.
The album as a whole generated five consecutive hits on the Adult Contemporary chart: “How Long” (No. 1 country, Top 20 AC), “Busy Being Fabulous,” “No More Cloudy Days,” “What Do I Do With My Heart,” and “I Don’t Want to Hear Any More.” Paul Carrack recorded his own version of the song in 2008 on his album I Know That Name, featuring backing vocals from Don Henley and Timothy B. Schmit.
Recording sessions for Long Road Out of Eden spanned several years, reflecting the band’s meticulous approach after their reunion. The track runs 4:21 in length and appears as track 6 on disc one of the double album. Carrack had previously contributed to the Eagles’ catalog indirectly through co-writing “Love Will Keep Us Alive” for their 1994 reunion album Hell Freezes Over.
By 2007, the Eagles lineup consisted of Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Joe Walsh, and Timothy B. Schmit. The album’s release coincided with a major world tour, further boosting its visibility. No official music video was produced for the track, consistent with the band’s limited video output in later years.

Lyric
It’s not the first time
That I’ve had the sense that something’s wrong
But I’m old enough to know
That things don’t always work out like they should
I know you’re trying hard
To break it gently to me, now
But there’s no easy way
To tell it like it is, so babyI don’t want to hear any more
You don’t need to tell me it’s over
I’ve been here beforeI’ve seen that look before
I know it well; it comes as no surprise
You’ve been avoiding me
But now you want to talk it over
Before you take my hand
And tell me softly in a whisper
There’s no need to explain
I’ve read the book; I know how this all endsI don’t want to hear any more
You don’t need to tell me it’s over
I’ve been here beforeI won’t ask you to stay
I won’t stand in your way
Look me right in the eyes
Let me walk away with my head high
If there’s some other guy
I don’t need to know whyBut I don’t want to hear any more
You don’t need to tell me it’s over
I’ve been here beforeI won’t ask you to stay
I won’t stand in your way
And I don’t want to hear any more
No, no, baby
I don’t want to hear any more
