About The Song
“It’s Your World Now” is a poignant, mid-tempo ballad that closes the Eagles’ seventh studio album, Long Road Out of Eden. The double album was released on October 30, 2007, by Eagles Recording Company II (distributed through Lost Highway Records in some markets). It marked the band’s first full studio album of new original material since The Long Run in 1979, ending a 28-year gap between studio releases. The track appears as the final song on disc two (track 11), with a duration of 4 minutes and 20 seconds.
Written by Glenn Frey and Jack Tempchin, the song features lead vocals by Glenn Frey, with rich harmonies from Don Henley, Joe Walsh, and Timothy B. Schmit. Production was handled collectively by the Eagles, with Bill Szymczyk contributing engineering and mixing. Recording sessions spanned several years (approximately 2001–2007) across multiple studios, including The Doghouse in Los Angeles, Henson Recording Studios in Hollywood, and others. The song’s gentle acoustic base, layered guitars, and orchestral touches give it a reflective, farewell-like quality.
Long Road Out of Eden debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, selling over 711,000 copies in its first week in the United States, and achieved 7× Platinum certification from the RIAA. It produced several radio hits, including “How Long” (No. 1 on Hot Country Songs), “Busy Being Fabulous,” “What Do I Do with My Heart,” and “I Don’t Want to Hear Any More.” The album received four Grammy nominations in 2009, winning two: Best Pop Instrumental Performance for “I Dreamed There Was No War” and Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals for “How Long.”
“It’s Your World Now” was not released as a single and did not chart on Billboard. However, it holds special significance as one of the last songs Glenn Frey co-wrote and sang lead on for a new Eagles studio album before his death in January 2016. The lyrics offer a bittersweet message of letting go and passing the torch—interpreted by many as Frey and the band reflecting on their long career, the next generation, and life’s transitions. Jack Tempchin, a longtime Eagles collaborator who also wrote “Peaceful Easy Feeling” and “Already Gone,” brings a warm, philosophical touch to the composition.
The track became a poignant closer in live performances during the band’s 2008–2011 world tour supporting the album. After Frey’s passing, it took on added emotional weight, often serving as a touching finale in tribute shows. Long Road Out of Eden remains the final Eagles studio album featuring the classic lineup of Frey, Henley, Walsh, and Schmit, making “It’s Your World Now” a symbolic endpoint to that era.

Lyric
You don’t know how hard I tried
To make things better for you and I
But it seems like the harder that I try
The more we drift apartAnd now it’s come to this
We both know there’s no turning back
It’s your world now
And I’m just passing throughIt’s your world now
You can do what you want to
It’s your world now
You don’t need me anymore
It’s your world nowI remember when we first met
We were so young and innocent then
We thought that love would last forever
But forever came and wentAnd now the time has come
To say goodbye to what we had
It’s your world now
And I’m just passing throughIt’s your world now
You can do what you want to
It’s your world now
You don’t need me anymore
It’s your world nowI wish you all the best
I hope you find happiness
And if you ever think of me
I hope it’s with a smileIt’s your world now
You can do what you want to
It’s your world now
You don’t need me anymore
It’s your world nowIt’s your world now
It’s your world now
